About Yoram Leert

My name is Yoram. I’m a teacher, artist, former student of philosophy, and an adventurous, free spirit with a lust for life.

“Old” Methods of Language Learning
After years of being a language teacher, I felt more and more disconnected from the subject matter and the methods I was using to teach: dry, fake textbook conversations, grammar rules, uninspiring homework exercises and whatnot…

So I started developing classes with the clear intention to make them genuinely fun and exciting for the students. The excitement would become the fuel for their own progress, especially on the long term.

The Natural Method
I was also – and continue to be – amazed by how children learn their native language.

Through stories, songs, playful interactions and endless repetition, they are constantly mimicking the words and behaviors of the people around them. And if we encourage their playful attitude, they go from absolute zero to a native speaker in an incredibly short amount of time.

What’s most surprising to me is this
We don’t even have to explain grammar to children explicitly, yet they absorb these patterns naturally and intuitively over time.

Teaching Style
This has become an important cornerstone in my teaching style. I want to learn AND teach from the masters of language learners. My job is not just to “teach” people Dutch; no, I want to spark their curiosity and excitement first, and turn the classroom into a (virtual) playground, where we can play with the language and enjoy the process itself.

So get ready to have a lot of fun, make mistakes and be corrected often during the classes; it’s the only way to learn.
